Historic Townscape Renewal

Brecon Road | Abergavenny

Client: Henstaff & Melin Homes

A sensitive town-centre regeneration delivering 24 high-quality apartments through the refurbishment of an existing courtyard building and a complementary new-build element, alongside improved access, demolition of redundant outbuildings, and associated landscape works. We delivered the full planning package and technical design for the scheme, realised for Melin Homes within Abergavenny’s historic urban fabric.

The completed development provides 12 apartments within the restored courtyard structure and 12 within the new building, carefully composed to respect surrounding scale, enclosure, and architectural character. By integrating contemporary homes within a heritage-led townscape setting, Brecon Road reinforces the street’s character while contributing positively to the evolution of the town centre.

Chartist Gardens | Caerphilly

Chartist Gardens is a 125-home residential scheme on the former Pontllanfraith House site, set adjacent to Sir Harold Finch Memorial Park. Inspired by Arts and Crafts and early garden city principles, the development creates a distinctive, landscape-led place to live, for which we delivered the full planning and technical design.

A balanced mix of homes, including social rent and shared ownership, is arranged around naturalistic open spaces, tree-lined streets, and SuDS-integrated green infrastructure that support biodiversity and wellbeing. The Grade II listed war memorial is retained as a key focal point, and the scheme’s emphasis on nature, heritage, and inclusive design led to nomination for the Positive Placemaking Award at the Welsh Housing Awards.
