Loftus Garden Village, Newport

Client: Pobl
Budget: Confidential
Tenure: Mixed

Loftus Garden Village is a newly established neighbourhood community in the heart of Newport. Designed by HAL, LGV won the New Development title at the Welsh Housing Awards 2017.

HAL has been reappointed to design Phase 2 which will hopefully form the first in a series of progressive projects by Pobl that will challenge and champion the ‘normalisation’ of sustainable, zero-carbon behaviours across the industry.

The design has been developed to ensure all 54 homes have southerly facing roofs, to allow integration of solar PV. Homes are spaced apart to prevent over-shadowing.

We are developing the Pobl house type range, exploring Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) techniques.

The new house types incorporate a flexible ground floor design with two living spaces providing space to work from homes. They incorporate a plant room for heat pump and batteries and are built around a stair and service module providing M&E route from ground floor plant room to loft. The house types meet Welsh Government ‘Beautiful Homes and Spaces’ Standard 2021.
