Neighbourhood Integration

Plasdwr, Phase 2A | Cardiff

Client: Barratt & David Wilson Homes

Set within the wider Plasdŵr masterplan, the Maesllech Gardens scheme delivers 280 new homes shaped around strong landscape structure and garden-city principles.

The site presented several design challenges, including sloping topography, fixed access points, existing housing edges and the need to protect mature vegetation along the golf course boundary. Integration with future phases and alignment with the character areas defined in the Design Code were also key considerations. The resulting layout provides a contemporary and well-connected neighbourhood, with clear street hierarchy, generous green spaces and a cohesive architectural character that responds sensitively to its context.

The Orchards, Hildersley | Ross-on-Wye

Client: Barratt & David Wilson Homes

The Orchards, Hildersley delivers 212 new homes on the edge of Ross-on-Wye, providing a mix of open market and 40% affordable housing in a sustainable, well-connected location. The scheme follows a Green Infrastructure-led approach, sensitively framing the development with landscape buffers and capturing key view corridors towards St Mary’s Church spire.

The layout creates an attractive, permeable neighbourhood with generous formal and informal open spaces that enhance biodiversity and support healthy, active lifestyles. A fabric-first strategy underpins the sustainability approach, complemented by features such as solar panels, efficient heating systems and low-energy lighting to reduce carbon emissions at source.
